Underground Railroad (1861-1865)
was a secret network organized by people who helped men, women, and children escape from slavery to freedom. It operated before the Civil War (1861-1865) ended slavery in the United States.

However, the network now generally known as the Underground Railroad was formed in the late 1700s, and reached its height between 1850 and 1860.
